It's Like Having Your
Tooth Again!

The most natural way to replace a missing tooth.

Single Tooth Implants

When both the crown and root of a tooth are damaged, the best permanent replacement is a dental implant in conjunction with a porcelain crown. This solution will look and function just like a natural tooth..

TREATMENT

This procedure normally includes four visits to the dentist. Most patients report that they were muchmore comfortable following the procedure than they had anticipated. The course of treatment described here is one of several options available.

1. Before the procedure – We will thoroughly exam the site to determine what needs to be done and take one or more x-rays of the area to prepare for the procedure.

2. Installing the dental implant – Installation of the implant is normally done in a single session. A temporary crown may be attached at the same time, making it possible for you to function like normal while waiting for the permanent porcelain crown to be installed. The implant will need a few months to integrate with the jawbone before the next step is taken. This time will vary depending on the implant location and esthetic demands.

3. Taking the implant impression – After the implant has integrated, an impression will be taken so the laboratory can make your final porcelain crown.

4. Attaching the new crown – The final step is the placement of the permanent ceramic crown. You should expect the new tooth to fit and function just like a natural tooth. The new crown will handle all the pressure that your natural tooth did. You should brush and floss your new tooth and the gums around it as you would a natural tooth.

ALTERNATIVES TO AN IMPLANT CERAMIC CROWN:

  • Tooth-supported fixed bridge – A traditional bridge involves grinding down adjacent teeth to support the bridge. It is a stable solution with good esthetics and function that is fairly easy to install. However, this alternative has two main disadvantages: continuous bone resorption of the edentulous area and the sacrifice of healthy teeth on behalf of the bridge.

  • Removable partial denture – This option is not a permanent solution to a lost tooth. It is unstable and loosely attached, which affects both function and comfort. A removable partial denture is made of plastic – a material that can’t create the same esthetic result as a porcelain crown. The benefits are few but do exist: natural teeth are spared, it is relatively cheep and simple to install.

I had a long overdue deep cleaning, root canal/crown, AND fillings within a month. Dr. Thurman, Morgan, Kathy and staff were very attentive and kind with not ONLY the procedures and explanations but with checking up on me after the root canal. Also great at helping me figure out my insurance coverage and payments. Dental Elements is GREAT.
