The most natural way to replace a missing tooth.
Among the various options in dental implants we offer at Dental Implants are Fixed Hybrid Dentures (All-on-X). These dentures are also called All-On-Four dental implants and hybrid fixed detachable dentures. Hybrid dentures differ considerably from the traditional removable dentures most people are familiar with. Therefore, we’d like to highlight those differences below, beginning with an explanation of what a hybrid denture is.
A hybrid denture is a permanent set of teeth that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. Essentially, this type of denture is stabilized in the jaw bone and is a cross between a traditional denture and a fixed bridge. This tooth replacement option is often the best solution for people who have a significant amount of bone loss in the jaw and who don’t want to have multiple teeth removed in order to be fitted with dentures.
This offers the stability and health benefits of dental implants, with the coverage and ease of dentures. It’s a great solution for people missing most, if not all of the teeth in an arch. With this treatment, minimal implant posts are strategically placed throughout the arch to support the denture.
Unlike a removable denture that requires adhesive to keep it stable, a hybrid denture is firmly attached to four or more implants in the jaw. Following the healing of the implants in the jaw bone, the implants are connected to abutments that are screwed into a metal framework. The hybrid denture is fixed and does not need to be taken out every day like regular dentures, making it a much more convenient option for replacing missing teeth.
Unlike removable dentures that often feel bulky and uncomfortable, hybrid dentures represent a more comfortable option. And since the upper palate is left open, these dentures make it easier to fully taste and enjoy all the flavors of foods. Hybrid dentures also don’t move and shift out of place like removable dentures often do, as they’re very secure and stable. This stability also prevents any soreness from developing, which is common when removable dentures are worn and especially when small pieces of food become trapped under the dentures.
In order to find out if you’re a good candidate for hybrid dentures, you will need to undergo an examination by Dr. Thurman. During your first visit, a variety of digital X-rays will be taken to determine if you have the bone structure needed to support implants and a proper bite alignment. Other factors which are taken into consideration when determining if you make a good candidate for hybrid dentures include:
