IV Sedation (Deep Sedation)

If you have a fear of needles, cringe at the sounds in a dental office, are immune to the numbing effects of local anesthetics or have sensitive teeth, you might be a candidate for intravenous (IV) sedation dentistry. Imagine having your dental treatment completed while you nap comfortably without any memory of the procedure afterwards. IV sedation is not for everyone, but for those who have been avoiding the dentist due to fear, paranoia or discomfort, this method can be extremely beneficial. Patients with severe dental anxiety should consider IV sedation to complete their dental treatment.

If your treatment plan is extensive, you have special conditions that may complicate treatment, or if you are deeply anxious and feat dental treatment, we may recommend intravenous (IV) sedation.

Intravenous sedation is the deepest form of sedation available. It will allow you to be less aware of the treatment while it’s being performed and not remember much of it afterwards. The biggest advantage of IV sedation is that we can give you consistent medicine during a longer procedure to keep you relaxed the entire time.

Throughout your procedure, you will be carefully monitored by cutting edge equipment and a highly trained nurse anesthetist (CRNA). With IV sedation, medications are administered intravenously through an IV into the bloodstream to induce a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what is going on. Many times patients recall little if any of what happened during the procedure. Upon completion of your treatment, we will stay with you until you are ready to go home with a companion.

Your medical history, conditions, & medications are always thoroughly considered before recommending this method. If IV sedation is chosen, we can perform treatment right in our practice. The IV is administered through a needle inserted into the vein, usually behind the hand.

I had a long overdue deep cleaning, root canal/crown, AND fillings within a month. Dr. Thurman, Morgan, Kathy and staff were very attentive and kind with not ONLY the procedures and explanations but with checking up on me after the root canal. Also great at helping me figure out my insurance coverage and payments. Dental Elements is GREAT.
